HOUSE SHOWS!
Up for a challenge?
We are looking for a last-minute house or gallery show between Boston and Bloomington, Indiana--preferably on Friday the 18th, Sunday the 20th, or even Monday the 21st. Poughkeepsie, NY residents, we're talking to you! (just kidding. in a way.) We are playing at Culture Shock festival on April 19th, so we're looking for something in between to break up the drive and (hopefully) spark things up a bit. If you or anyone you know of likes to host parties or home-events, here is your chance!
All inquiries should be sent to: info@whitehinterland.com or through our Myspace account.

PLEASE ENJOY!
We are back from SXSW and our dreamy tour with Bon Iver & Phosphorescent. After many late and rowdy evenings, we were all sad to say adieu to both camps. We ate avocados straight off the branch in California, averaged about 10 tacos a day in Texas, discovered dried mangoes rolled in sugar and crushed ancho chilies, and had an unforgettable trip in all. Phosphorescent and Bon Iver are still on the road, and if they come through your town, please go and see them. They will astound you, we promise!
SXSW was surreal. It was our first time at the festival, and also our first time meeting many of our fellow Dead Ocean-ers. We had quite an adventure: there were fights (not naming names but...her initials are CSD), loud music, phenomenal music, inexplicably bad music, tacos, tequila, many many friends new & old. It is hard updating this site sometimes, just to include the breadth of experiences we've had out and about on the road. We made so many friends and met so many people, and it seems impossible to catalogue them in a blog-friendly way that will do them justice. Hopefully, those people are reading this, and know how much we love and appreciate them, and how it wouldn't really be worth it without them.
Some news: A month ago, Stereogum.com sent out a dispatch to White Hinterland. Matt & Casey were given the daunting task of covering Bjork's "I Miss You" from the album POST. What resulted was a lot of wires, clapping, banging around of pots & pans, etc. Along with some of our favorite friends and bands (Final Fantasy, Dirty Projectors, Bell, to name a few), you can hear the results here.
until next month. xox.WH

STOLEN GEAR ITEM LIST
As mentioned earlier--we experienced a big setback earlier this week. While in New York over the weekend, our drummer's van was broken into, and here is an official list of what was stolen:
18 inch gretsch bass drum, brown 12 and 16 inch floor toms, greenish-blue casio sk-1 casio with drum pad, can't remember model name fender deluxe reverb re-issue black top amplifier dw-5000 bass drum pedal 3 dw flat bottom cymbal stands 1 pearl high hat stand digitech multi-play pds 20/20 Doctor Beat metronomoe grover tambourine, german silver, in a steve-weisz tambourine bag alan able triangle tehcniques DJ mixer bayer microphone Timberland workboots, black, men's size 7/12 bally-works bag, medium-sized assorted quarter-inches, mic chords, monster cables air mattress 1930s slash cymbal, un-named make avocado shaker, made by reimo pearl drum stool yamaha snare drum stand pear snare drum stand
In addition to all of this, the window on Matt's van was smashed, and he has to repair that. We're still unsure of the insurance situation, but of the stolen gear was uninsured and unfortunately, we're looking at a huge financial setback here.
Ask anyone in a band and they'll tell you, we depend often on the generosity of strangers. When we get into town late at night, it's often your house we stay at. When we need a place to to do laundry, it's often your cellar that we turn into a laundromat. Where do we eat? Who can we meet? Who will buy our records, come to our shows, and keep gas in the tank? None of these things would ever happen without your help and support--and we continue to be very humbled by this exchange. We can't wait to come to your towns and meet all of you, but to borrow a famous cliche, "no man is an island."
Some of you have asked what you can do to help us, so we've set up a donation fund where you can help us relieve the costs of getting everything back. We're hoping to be able to pull things together for the start of tour next week, and any help you can give would be much appreciated.

P.S. there is some good news--we were recently featured on NPR's Bryant Park, where we did a brief interview and played a few songs off of the record. Listen to it here.

STOLEN GEAR!
Hello friends,
Last evening, our drummer's van was broken into while staying in Manhattan. Among the thieves' loot are a casio sk-1, his entire drum set except for cymbals & snare, hardware, our bass amp, his air mattress (cheap!) etc. I will post an official list of what's missing--if any of you see any of these things on craigslist or the like in the next few days, please let us know.
As many of you know, this is an unfortunately common story amongst bands on the road. It sucks, and really puts a damper on a job that's often already financially challenging without criminal events. If you see anything, please e-mail meyerdrums@hotmail.com or info@whitehinterland.com --no questions asked, we're just looking to see those items returned.

WHITE HINTERLAND ANNOUNCE TOUR W/ TAKEN BY TREES
Since our last announcement, we've been hearing the pleasant refrain: "When are you coming to my town?" The good news is, we're slowly but surely making our way to cities near you (or at least, quite a few of you).
In late February, we will be touring with Sweden's lovely Taken By Trees (fronted by Victoria Bergsman, formerly of the Contretes). We hope this is the first of many special tours this year. Also, we will be playing several shows at the SXSW Festival, so keep checking back here to see the specifics of that. I expect we'll know within the next week or so.
Additionally, if there's a corner of our country or your own where we have not been, please write to us & tell us where to go!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
In accordance with the obligatory champagne, polar swims in the nude, and new years resolutions, we offer you these announcements:
As of today, there will be no further updates on CaseyDienel.com. Just to clear any confusion, all news & other pertinent info will now be featured here or (less frequently) here. The reason why there is no longer a caseydienel.com is mostly for utility, hence the birth of WhiteHinterland.com, which is, (you guessed it!) the home of White Hinterland.
What is White Hinterland? We can’t say, you’ll have to be the judge. For the present and foreseeable future, there won’t be any more Casey Dienel, unless you run into her while she’s ordering a coffee or seeing a friend’s show. If it’s that Casey that you glimpse out there on the street, feel free to say hi. The other Casey has gone somewhere else, has been gone for awhile now. But all this is quite boring newstuff, compared to what else is to come!
The big news is that White Hinterland has recently decided to shack up with the good people of Dead Oceans, who since their recent naissance this past summer have already brought so much good new music into the world. To say that we are excited about working with them wouldn’t nearly do it justice! We are very honored to be a part of their family tree, and that is why on March 4th of this year, we will issue our newest effort, entitled PHYLACTERY FACTORY.
The record was recorded in Portland, OR with Adam Selzer at Type Foundry Studios. Shawn Creeden provided the wonderful artwork to accompany it (including the cute hyenas prowling around on this site). We like it very much, and can’t wait to share it with you when the time comes! To hear snippets of demos for the new record, head to White Hinterland’s myspace page. But caveat emptor! The quality's quite rough, but worth a listen anyhow.
To read a much more eloquent explanation of PHYLACTERY FACTORY (LP) than we could ever hope to proffer, please read Sean Michael’s take on the Dead Oceans website.
Stay tuned. XOX.WH
